Eviternity II is a megawad made up of 36 levels spread over 6 chapters, in which you will find new settings, new textures, and new monsters. To play, as is typical of mods for Doom and Doom 2, all you need is the latest version of GZDoom. It does need to be the latest version, since versions prior to 4.12.2 do not work correctly.
How to make sure the game runs smoothly?
The easiest way to start playing Eviternity II is to unzip the compressed file in the same folder as GZDoom. Once you have done this, just drag the .WAD file to the GZDoom executable and the game will start after a few seconds. And that's it. It's that easy. If an error message appears, the chances are that you do not have the latest version of GZDoom, in which case you will need to download a newer version and replace all the necessary files.
What is a megawad?
In the Doom modding community, a megawad is simply a .WAD file that has 15 levels or more. Normally, this type of mod has its levels spread over several chapters with a duration close to that of the original Doom game. As is the case with Eviternity II, you can also introduce new monsters and even some new items and weapons. In short: they are colossal mods that breathe new life into Doom and Doom 2.
A huge, tough campaign
One of Eviternity II's most emblematic features is its high level of difficulty. Each of the game's six chapters contains at least one or two levels in which you have to survive huge arenas full of monsters, where you will find more than a dozen brand new demons. Luckily, although the normal difficulty level (Hurt Me Plenty) is higher than in the original Doom 2 campaign, the game allows you to considerably reduce the number of enemies present by choosing one of the lower difficulty levels. The developers themselves recommend reducing the difficulty if you are having trouble advancing in the campaign.
New weapons, new monsters and much more
As we have already mentioned, Eviternity II features over a dozen brand new monsters, including fearsome creatures like the Nightmare Demon (a dark variant of the Demon) or the Astral Mancubus (an enhanced version of the original Mancubus). Fortunately, you will also have new weapons. For starters, the basic pistol now shoots faster and is more accurate. The chainsaw has been replaced by a completely new weapon: the Perforator, a brutal sniper rifle that expends 25 bullets per shot and is capable of taking out almost any enemy in a few seconds. As if these solid additions were not enough, the game features a completely new soundtrack composed just for the occasion.
Keep enjoying Doom 2
Download Eviternity II if you've already completed Doom and Doom 2 more times than you can count and feel like taking on a new challenge. The campaign offers over ten hours of entertainment and includes a host of content that does not appear in the original two titles. A real treat for fans of the franchise and further proof that the Doom modding community is one of the best in the business.
